Teach Me About Thy Cross

Teach me about Thy Cross, dear Lord,
nothing presumed, I’ve all to learn.
Spirit of God, unfold the Word;
Thy deepest secrets let me learn.
Prone to indulge my selfish whims;
failing to learn Thy purity.
Bent on my will, my pride, my sins;
teach of Thy Cross and liberate me.
Make of Thy Cross a yoke for me;
crowd me toward life, all sin erase.
Discipline every energy,
Lord, may Thy glory shine on my face.
Jesus, Thy Cross all pow’r has gained;
sin, death, and hell now vanquished lay.
May I by faith that vict’ry claim,
and in Thy triumph reign every day.
No earth or hell can e’er compete
I now am loosed, who once was bound.
Serpents and scorpions ‘neath my feet;
Christ’s conq’ring glory shines all around.
