God’s
Give-Away Program

Our American culture
is unique to most parts of the world in many ways, not the least
of which is our bombastic, super-galaxy-of gifts, television giveaway
programs. As commercial and Madison-Avenue-packaged as they are,
I must confess that in at least a couple of respects this culture
trait mirrors something of God’s methods.
I see two parallels:
(1) The recipients receives something free, and (2) the giver distributes
from the abundance of his resources.
Theologically, we would
call the first "grace," and the second "omnipotence."
What God gives us is completely unearned, and the way He gives is
from the abounding provision of the Almighty, All-Sufficient One.
From the moment of my
entry into the saving life Jesus has given me through the Cross,
all the way through my lifetime of learning to walk in His love
and power...it’s all grace. He gives it. Nothing is earned.
Nothing is actuated by my strength or power. As the hymnwriter put
it, "He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again."
And, of course, the
second feature of this tandem-truth is the resource from which He
gives. It’s boundless, measureless, unlimited, unending, abundant,
almighty, and eternal.
Be comforted and emboldened
in your faith, friend. God has gifts for you and in quantities you
never dreamed. These gifts are infinitely more valuable than the
tinsel and materialistic toys pursued so desperately by the world.
He has gifts of peace, strength, joy fulfillment, and a sense of
significance in life that will draw you out of bed each morning
like a magnet.
He’s looking for
people who will come in simple dependence upon His grace, and rest
in simple faith upon His greatness.
At this very
moment, He’s looking at you. |
